A concerted effort to turn Galapagos into the world’s first sustainable society

Galapagos IslandsGalapagos is the best-preserved group of tropical islands on the planet. More than 95% of the species that were there when humans first visited the islands some 400 years ago, are still there. There is no other place like it on earth.

The islands are equally famous for having been the place that inspired Charles Darwin to identify the biggest secret of human existence: our origin. Galapagos has changed forever the way we see ourselves. Over the years, the Galapagos’ ecosystems have served as a natural laboratory to test and to prove new discoveries and theories about evolution, biology, genetics, and many other fields of science. No other group of islands of a comparable size have proven so inspiring to mankind.

However, decisive actions need to be taken in order to save the islands for future generations. “Galapagos in Crisis” (UNESCO) makes it clear that unless bold, decisive action is taken within the next 5-10 years, Galapagos, as we know it could be lost forever.

For such actions, not only sufficient funds are needed. The Galapagos Islands also need help with deploying funds, in a way that ensures maximum impact and success.

The Galapagos ISS Fund will provide funds as well as operational know-how – both aimed at complementing existing local organizations so that they can unfold their true potential. It is the first time that a fundraising effort involving Galapagos aims to help carry out a holistic solution to the islands’ problems. No similar effort has ever been undertaken.

The Galapagos ISS Fund offers the opportunity to carry out a philanthropic project with an extremely high impact on Galapagos and a ripple effect that is bound to make a difference for the entire planet – an unmatchable philanthropic project to be involved in. For the small number of donors, the Galapagos ISS Fund will provide a highly experiential philanthropy opportunity unlike no other in the world.
